Verbal volunteers feature in e-book celebrating lockdown heroes

'Ordinary People- Extraordinary Times'

Our amazing Listen Share Change volunteers have featured in an photographic e-book which celebrates the actions of local heroes throughout the Covid-19 lockdown period.

The legacy project called 'Ordinary People- Extraordinary Times' by Volunteer Now, captures volunteers in action during the Covid-19 lockdown period.

Organised in conjunction with the Department of Communities, the e-book follows the #HelpEachOther campaign which was launched in March to promote Covid-19 related volunteering opportunities.

'The Pandemic Volunteers'

Off the back of the e-book, Linda Stewart from The Belfast Telegraph was keen to hear more about our Listen Share Change project and volunteering opportunities. She caught up with our very own Geraldine Galloway from our Sion Mills group.

Here's an extract from Linda's feature 'The Pandemic Volunteers' which was published in the Belfast Telegraph on Monday, 21st September 2020. 

Geraldine: "Reading Rooms gets everyone's minds active in different ways. Sometimes everyone laughs, sometimes it's sad and everyone gets to know one another. It gives us a good connection and sense of well-being. It was something to get up for and look forward to. Some of the older people would get their hair done and their make-up, some would get dressed up. They could share what they were doing themselves and talk about their problems and I got alot of pleasure and satisfaction from doing it."
