All Ages April

Display of WW2 evacuee artefactsFollowing our introductory session at Ardstraw Jubilee Primary School, we brought the children to Three Rivers care home in Omagh for a special intergenerational Reading Rooms to celebrate All Ages April.

Connecting with WW2

The children have been studying World War 2. We chose a story about a young boy called Sam who was evacuated to the country. He is befriended by an older man who teaches him about nature and Sam learns to appreciate his new surroundings.

Some of the Three Rivers residents were themselves evacuated during the war. They shared their memories of that experience with the children. This helped the children to understand what it was like to live through the war.

Thank you

As a thank you to residents, the children presented some beautiful, hand-made crafts.

We would like to thank the residents and staff of Three Rivers and the pupils and teachers of Ardstraw Jubilee Primary School for making such a memorable Reading Rooms intergenerational session. Thank you to our volunteer reader, Una McCrory.

We would also like to thank our funders, the Henry Smith Charity, the Public Health Agency, and Linking Generations Northern Ireland, for making the event possible.
