Children's Laureate, Lauren Child, was interviewed on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Lauren ChildWhen children stop reading

Lauren had some great advice for parents and carers. Children can turn away from reading, for all sorts of reasons. They can become frustrated when their reading skills stall.

Lauren says the situation can get worse if children see reading as a punishment. Sometimes the best thing to do is to go back a step and read aloud with your children. Lauren emphasises the importance of keeping the idea of story alive. An interest in reading will soon follow.
