What we do Criminal justice Our first peer volunteers from Beyond the Walls Congratulations Three young people referred through the Western Health and Social Care Trust’s 16+ Pathways programme successfully completed their training on August 8th. They are being mentored as part of the Beyond the Walls project, funded by Spirit of 2012. This project works with young people with experience of the criminal justice system. A practical qualification The young people completed their OCN Level 2 training in Shared Reading and Facilitation Skills. They prepared and delivered a Reading Rooms session here in The Verbal. The young people had to select and read a poem aloud to the group. Then they facilitated a discussion around the main themes of the poem, ensuring that group members had opportunities to share their thoughts. What happens next? The young people will now become Peer Volunteers and use their training to deliver Reading Rooms with groups from Extern and Voice of Young People In Care (VOYPIC). Congratulations to all three for completing their training course and volunteering to help The Verbal take shared reading to other young people in care.
