With Verbal’s Reading Friends project partner, Older People North West, we were delighted to have two titles for World Book Night on April 23, 2019.

Getting the books out there

We distributed copies to our two weekly Reading Friends groups at Older People North West and Owen Mor Care Centre.

All of our volunteers had the opportunity to pick up books and bags from Verbal or Older People North West in preparation for an open event at Eason Books in Derry/Londonderry.

Reading for pleasure

We read selected excerpts from both books and had some lively discussions over coffee and cake. What are the things we could not live without? Washing machines scored high on the list!

Sharing the joy

Since World Book Night fell during the Easter Holidays, we have continued the celebration for another few weeks.

Aoife Rodgers, project officer for Beyond the Walls, has donated books to the Probation Board of Northern Ireland for clients within the criminal justice system.

Stephanie Houston, our Outreach project officer for Listen, Share, Change, is donating copies to groups in rural communities, including  the Glens, Bovalley, and Castle Community Associations, and the Roe Valley Residents Group.

Thank you

Thank you to Eason, Foyleside, Older People North West, Owen Mor Care Centre, and Verbal for hosting World Book Night 2019.

Good company with good books makes for great times
