Research contract: Understanding the impact ‘Reading Rooms’ has on the mental health & wellbeing of ex-offenders.

Maximum spend: £17,000 (incl. VAT)

Overview

The purpose of the current research tender is to commission an independent evaluation to be undertaken by a third level research institution (preferably involving a School of Psychology). The research will be designed to identify and quantify any impact participating in a 12-week Reading Rooms programme has on the mental health and wellbeing of 'hard to reach' adults in the criminal justice system in Northern Ireland.

Proposed Study Design

The study will use a convergent mixed methodology design, broken down into 2 phases.

Phase 1 consists of a between groups experimental design with 3 conditions (1 experimental, 2 control).

Phase 2 consists of focus group interviews conducted with participants who have completed the intervention (using thematic analysis methodology).

Please note, however, that this design is a suggestion and we encourage bidders to propose alternative designs/additional design elements.
