Becca is an intern with the Reading Rooms programme. She comes to us through the INCORE ‘Democracy and Social Change in Northern Ireland’ programme at Ulster University, Magee College.

We caught up with Becca recently to find out a bit more about her and to see how she is getting on.

Where are you from Becca?

I grew up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where I spent my days reading stories and dreaming of far-off lands full of misty mountains and spooky forests and castles full of books.

I’m currently studying English at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, where I will graduate this May.

How are you enjoying your time in Derry/Londonderry?

I’m thrilled to be living and working in Derry/Londonderry as part of a programme I’ve dreamed of attending for years.

What is it like being an intern at Verbal?

The mountains of Donegal are looming a bit far off, and St. Columb’s Park is not exactly spooky, but the Verbal Arts Centre is close enough to a castle full of books for me!

I love working both with words and with people and have spent many years trying to bring those two things together: as a journalist, a marketer, a creative writer, and now as a VAC intern.

I’m so excited to join the incredible team here, and see where this opportunity takes me!'

Good luck with your graduation Becca, and thank you for all your hard work with Reading Rooms. It's been a pleasure.
