Rachael Kelly - Write Your Novel COURSE SUMMARY: Get your masterpiece out of your head and onto the page with this six-week online course. Suitable for beginners and more experienced writers alike. We’ll look at getting to grips with the heart of your novel, drawing up your cast of characters, and sketching out your plot, and, most importantly, we’ll get those all-important first words written. They say everyone has a novel inside them - let’s get yours started! COURSE OUTLINE: 6 x 1.5hr online evening sessions Week 1 – working out what kind of writer you are & setting personal goals Week 2 – brief intro to narrative structure and what needs to go where in a novel Week 3 – developing your protagonist and their character arc Week 4 – developing your antagonist and defining their goals Week 5 – worldbuilding and working out what you need to know about your story world Week 6 – planning for pitfalls and what to do about them if they arrive Every week will have a structured 30 minutes of writing time and a 10-15 minute check-in to discuss goals/obstacles COURSE OUTCOMES: An in-depth introduction to the nuts and bolts of writing a novel from an author with two decades’ experience of writing and publishing An overview of different approaches to novel writing so that they can match their process to their needs as a writer and set themselves up for success Take your all-important first steps on the road to getting your novel written Be prepared for the bumps and obstacles that can get in the way of completing your first draft ABOUT THE FACILITATOR RB Kelly's debut novel, Edge of Heaven, was shortlisted for the Arthur C Clarke Award and the European Science Fiction Society Award for Best Work of Fiction. The sequel, On The Brink, was published in 2022. Her short stories can be found in publications from around the world, including The Best of British Science Fiction, Aurealis, and Lamplight Magazine.
