Volunteering with Reading Rooms

Our volunteers read a short story and a poem aloud with groups every week, and facilitate conversations about themes and ideas in the literature.

The time commitment is about two hours a week, including preparation time.

What we offer

We offer a bespoke, three day,OCN Level 2 accredited

course in Facilitation Skills for Shared Reading.

We also provide current safeguarding training and Access NI certification.

All training is free of charge to volunteers.

We select the literature used in Reading Rooms and provide you with copies for participants. New volunteers are supported while they settle into their role and there are quarterly meetings to share experiences and benefit from peer-support, plus ongoing training opportunities.
