Early-Stage Dementia: Creative Connections

The Creative Connections programme, which was funded by the LFT charitable trust, recruited 10-12 participants.   The programme was a combination of shared reading and reminiscence writing using storytelling combined with semi-structured, psychology-led discussions to improve participants’ emotional wellbeing.   For the first half of the session a trained facilitator read a poem or story based around themes of reminiscence and encouraged discussion among the group.  In the second half of the session, participants worked with the facilitator to capture memories connected to the theme of the story.  These were collated each week along with photos or mementos from the participant/family to be added to a memory book that each participant was able to take home at the end of the programme.

In the final week participants showcased the books they created providing opportunity for discussion and reflection on the sessions.
