Building Emotional Strength Together

Co-designed with individuals with lived experience, including parents, children, teachers, and mental health professionals, the programme uses storytelling and psychologically-informed discussion to build understanding, resilience, and emotional literacy. The project was delivered through three distinct strands that were identified and tested by our lived experience codesigners.

Strand 1: Enhancing understanding and awareness in mainstream schools – this was 6 weekly stories with wellbeing toolkits that tackle misconceptions, stigmatisation and social isolation for autistic children. This strand was delivered to children in primary school, mainstream education by their teacher.

Strand 2: Building Resilience and Emotional Coping Skills – this strand of the programme was delivered in special schools and had 2 stories with wellbeing toolkits to support autistic children’s mental health, social functioning and overall wellbeing. Aimed at those with special educational needs, this was delivered in 1-2-1 sessions.
