The Honest Ulsterman is a literary/arts publication based in Northern Ireland.

Literary history

It was originally in print format and was founded and launched at the end of the 1960s by James Simmons.

The Honest Ulsterman was published for over three decades, mostly under the editorship of Frank Ormsby. It ceased publication in the early 2000s.

Many established authors found their voice early in their careers through The Honest Ulsterman.

Digital age

The Honest Ulsterman, HU to its friends, was relaunched in an online edition by Verbal in 2014.

It has continued and expanded its tradition of platforming national and international writers and artists as well as supporting emerging talent.
