Blue Coat room Hire the Blue Coat Room Expand This room was formerly the assembly hall of First Derry School. It is the largest room available for hire. Two bardic chairs and flexible lecterns crafted from maple and walnut and handmade by Michael Bell add an artistic and practical touch to the room. The Blue Coat room is light and airy with many original features. Equipment An overhead projector screen is available and a range of audio visual equipment can be hired for your event. Access The Blue Coat Room is on the second floor and is accessed via stairs or lift. Catherine McDonnell Chairperson Expand Catherine graduated in Medicine from University College Dublin. She qualified as both a general practitioner and a psychiatrist. During her training she worked in Northern Ireland, Scotland and New Zealand. She settled locally and was appointed as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Western Health and Social Care Trust working in both hospitals and community. She trained in Quality Improvement with the Scottish Quality Safety Fellowship programme and the Sheffield Flow Coaching Academy. She held regional roles and led award winning service improvement teams. She spent the latter part of her career in medical management and was Trust Medical Director through the Covid pandemic. She is delighted to be working with Verbal.

Ciara Hanley Board Member Expand Ciara is a graduate of NUI Galway and the Law Society of Ireland. She practiced as a Solicitor in Dublin for ten years, predominantly in the area of defence insurance litigation, before becoming dual qualified and practicing in general litigation in ROI and NI. She has a keen interest in public policy and completed a research project on criminal trials of sexual offences with the Policy Unit of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ROI) and assisted the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre establish it's first legal advocacy service. More recently she benefited from completing the Boardroom Apprentice programme.

Entrance hall art Art works in the entrance hall of the Verbal Arts centre Expand The floor of the entrance to the Verbal Arts Centre is an exact representation of a Louis le Brocquy drawing executed in tiles by Dutch ceramicist Ron van der Noll. This collaborative work between the two artists depicts chariots, which are at the heart of the Ulster cycle of heroic tales. The reception desk in the background is by furniture maker Knut Klimmek. The glass sculpture in the recess to the right of the reception desk is by Killian Schurmann and resembles stalactites. Pictured in close-up below, it houses over 200 original manuscripts by Irish writers which were gifted to the Verbal Arts Centre.
